A surge of water on the Little Missouri River basin caused flooding near Medora Friday, but the water subsided Saturday, Billings County emergency manager Pat Rummel said.
"It was flowing pretty good, but it was in the banks," Rummel said. "Another guy checked it this afternoon and it was down considerably."
The surge affected an estimated seven mile-long area and forced some residents to evacuate their homes in low-lying areas near the river.
Snow packed into draws throughout the Badlands melted over the past week and the ice pack, which created a natural damming process that eventually gave way, helped cause the flooding.
