BISMARCK (AP) -- The North Dakota Legislature has recessed until Monday to allow lawmakers to deal with statewide flooding problems.

Both the House and Senate held brief floor sessions Wednesday before adjourning. Lawmakers who don't plan to return home were invited to join sandbagging operations in Bismarck and Mandan.

Legislative leaders say the flooding has made it much more difficult for people to come to Bismarck for hearings and other legislative work.

The chairmen of the North Dakota House and Senate's appropriations committees said their committees will continue working during the off days if enough members are still around.
