Fog advisory extended, snow beginning to fall

The National Weather Service extended its dense fog advisory until 9 tonight for much of western and central North Dakota.

Temperatures in the low to mid 30s over cold snow allows for the dense fog. In some areas visibility is less than a quarter of a mile.

Drizzle and sometimes freezing drizzle will make travel hazardous today, according to the service. However, an ice storm warning has been cancelled for the northeastern portions of the state. Rain is begining to turn to snow across west central and the southwestern portions of the state. Snowfall is moderate to heavy and should let up Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday evening, according to the NWS.

Six to 10 inches of wet snow is possbile from tonight through Wednesday morning, according to the service. The snow is possible from Ashley to Bottineau and includes Bismarck, Mandan, Garrison, Minot and Dickinson. Tonight's forecast for the Dickinson area gives a 90 percent chance of precipitation and little or no ice accumulation is expected, according to the service. Total snowfall is expected to reach 2-3 inches in the far southwest corner of North Dakota and 5-7 inches over Dunn County and points south through Dickinson.
