DEVILS LAKE -- Cole Frenzel's three-run home run in the fourth inning gave Dickinson a lead over Devils Lake it wouldn't relinquish.

The Roughriders held on for a 13-7 victory in American Legion baseball on Tuesday.

Frenzel hit a three-run bomb to give Dickinson a 6-3 lead.

The Storm had jumped to a 3-0 advantage in the second inning. Dickinson chipped away with two runs in the third, but after Frenzel's homer the Roughriders never trailed.

"We started slow, got down in a hole 3-0 and kind of battled back into it," Dickinson coach Cory Hansen said. "We were pretty happy with that performance."

Ben Herauf started for the Roughriders (3-2) but relief pitcher Tommy Peters took the win.

"Peters threw really well, he struggled and settled down the last couple innings," Hansen said.

Tyler Steffan finished 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Steffan drove in some of his runs with two outs.

"That's something we're trying to preach is to drive in runs with two outs," Hansen said.

Dickinson now meets the team they ousted in the high school state championship game. Except this time, Minot is packing a little more punch with the inclusion of players from outside of Minot High School.

"We know that's going to be a tough test," Hansen said.

The coach said he plans to start Stephen Laylock, who led Dickinson past Minot in the state title game, and relieve him with upperclassmen pitchers.

"We're going to throw a couple guys at them and see how we match up," Hansen said.
