Cramer elaborates on planning of Pence visit
GRAND FORKS — Rep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., provided some details Friday, July 13, about a visit by Vice President Mike Pence to Grand Forks after a pair of tweets Thursday hinting at an appearance.
Pence is coming to Grand Forks July 25, Cramer said, and will likely be here in the afternoon. The administration is still working on a location and it will be short.
"I can say he's not going to be spending the night," Cramer said. "And that's about as much as I can tell you right now."
The congressman first shared his news Thursday via self-described "teaser tweets," after learning details from the White House, he said.
"I like being a spokesperson for myself and my campaign. ... I just wanted you all to have something from me, to validate your rumors."
Specifically, Cramer said he wanted to beat anyone in Grand Forks involved with the event who might spoil the details before the event came to fruition.
Cramer said he recommended a Grand Forks visit to the White House last month, figuring the president and his administration had been in Fargo enough for now. Pence was there in March for an America First rally and a $1,000-a-plate lunch fundraiser for Cramer's campaign.
Cramer confirmed there will be another fundraiser July 25, but he said he doesn't know the details and it's not a priority.
"My hope is that it could be a public event, of course," Cramer said. "There's so many issues we'd love to have him address while he's in town."
On Cramer's wish list of items, there are three hot topics he wants to hear about: agriculture, the military, and President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.
"For me personally, you know, I'd like to see something agriculturally," Cramer said, later referencing progress on both Senate and House Farm Bills. "But the military is always my highest priority."
All in all, Pence is a "very accessible," "laid back guy," Cramer said, who likes his "local media."
"To me, Grand Forks was just the place for a patriotic guy like Mike Pence."
