Dickinson State women's basketball coach Guy Fridley went back to his roots to grab one of the biggest recruits of his young coaching career.
Fridley announced Monday that the team has signed Williston State College center Kai Herbel to a letter of intent.
"It's somebody who is really key to get this rebuilding process going and get us in the right direction," Fridley said.
Herbel, a 6-foot-2 New Town native, averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Tetons - Fridley's alma mater - as a freshman. She is averaging 14 points and eight boards this season and shooting 50 percent from the field. The Tetons are 10-4 so far this season.
The Blue Hawks currently lack a go-to center and it has shown in the numbers. They are dead last in the Dakota Athletic Conference in rebounds and, on average, have been outrebounded by 5.73 per game.

"We're getting a good basketball player who can come in and get the job done for us right away," Fridley said. "She's one that gives us that other dimension we're missing right now."
