JAMESTOWN - A 37-year-old Hazen man is facing numerous charges following a robbery of a purse Friday in Jamestown.
Darrell Boggs is charged with 19 charges, including 13 felonies, in Stutsman and Barnes counties.
The incident occurred in the parking lot between the Perkins Family Restaurant and Bakery, and the First Community Credit Union in Jamestown.
Boggs made his initial appearance Tuesday in Southeast District Court in Jamestown. According to court documents, Boggs was charged with 10 Class C and two Class B felony charges in Stutsman County, including robbery, criminal conspiracy to commit robbery, felon in possession of a firearm and five drug-related charges.
In Barnes County, Boggs is charged with a Class C felony, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. He is also charged with carrying a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, driving or in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and reckless driving, all Class B misdemeanors. Boggs is also charged with fleeing or attempting to flee a police officer, a Class A misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27 for the Barnes County charges. No date has been set for a preliminary hearing on the Stutsman County charges.
Boggs is in the Stutsman County Correctional Center on a $250,000 cash bond, according to Fritz Fremgen, Stutsman County state’s attorney.
A 17-year-old male was also allegedly involved in the robbery, but no details have been released about the juvenile. The suspect is being held in a youth correctional facility in Cass County, according to court documents.
According to court documents, officers from the Jamestown Police Department were dispatched by Stutsman County Communications to the parking lot between Perkins and FCCU at 5:52 p.m. Friday after a man called 911 to report a man had taken a purse from a woman walking to her car from FCCU.
The documents allege that while taking the purse, the 17-year-old knocked the woman to the ground, jumped into a dark green Oldsmobile SUV driven by Boggs and left the scene. The witness followed the SUV in his own vehicle out of the parking lot onto 25th Street Southwest and continued to follow the SUV as it drove onto U.S. Highway 281 South, then took the exit on to eastbound Interstate 94.
A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper located the SUV on I-94 east of Jamestown and pulled the vehicle over for a traffic stop. The SUV sped off with the trooper in pursuit, eventually got off of I-94 and drove north into Barnes County. Deputies with the Barnes County and Stutsman County sheriffs’ offices joined the pursuit. According to court documents, the SUV became stuck in a slough in northern Barnes County, and Boggs and the juvenile were caught as they attempted to flee on foot.
The SUV was impounded and brought back to the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center garage. After search warrants were obtained, law enforcement officers allegedly found small amounts of illegal drugs, a loaded handgun and a shotgun with a shortened barrel.
The maximum penalty for a Class B felony is 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. A Class C felony carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
