MANDAN (AP) -- A 52-year-old Hebron man is reported in good condition in a Bismarck hospital after being shot in the left shoulder by a law officer.

Authorities say the shooting of George Fischer began with a dispute over a local water bill, and ended shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday when he was shot by a member of the West Dakota SWAT team following a standoff that lasted nearly 8½ hours.

Fischer is charged with assault on a police officer and terrorizing.

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman did not identify the officer who shot Fischer, or say whether the officer has been placed on leave.
