In an effort to deter the deadly practice of drinking and driving and to coincide with Alcohol Awareness Month during April, the North Dakota Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Stark County Sheriff's Department and the Dickinson Police Department, will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday.

The checkpoint will be held in Stark County.

The checkpoint will be operated from approximately 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. The delay will be minimal for those drivers passing through that have made the right decision by choosing not to drink and drive.

There have been 13 fatal accidents so far this year in North Dakota with a total of 17 fatalities. Six out of 17, or 35 percent, of the fatal victims died from accidents involving alcohol. Sobriety checkpoints and saturations are excellent tools aimed at reducing these unfortunate losses of life.
