Gov. John Hoeven is encouraging North Dakotans to review their insurance policies to make sure they have adequate flood insurance.

Hoeven says the state has had record snowfall this season, which could put homeowners and businesses at risk for flooding during the spring melt.

Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm there is a 30-day waiting period before a flood insurance policy becomes effective. He says people without flood insurance should purchase a policy now.
