To the editor:

Kristin Hedger, a candidate for secretary of state, claims to have grown up in Killdeer. I have lived in Dunn County all my life and many of us who are long-time residents don't recall her actually "growing up" here or living in the state the past five years.

While she occasionally visits her grandparents in Killdeer, she moved with her parents to Texas in the early 1980s when she was a young child. That is where she grew up. Her folks still live there.

She actually graduated from high school in Kerrville, Texas, and afterward according to Kristen, attended universities in Texas, Washington, D.C., and Connecticut. That was at least into 2005 and based on her saying she is 26 years old, the numbers don't jive or add up.

North Dakota's constitution requires candidates for statewide office to live in North Dakota for at least five years prior to the election. To meet that requirement, she should have been living in the state since November 2001. And we know it hasn't been in Dunn County.

Maybe the Democrat Party should prove she meets the state requirement of residency or take immediate action to remove her from November's ballot.
