Lake Sakakawea State Park is participating in the Kids Life Jacket Loaner Program in partnership with the BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, to help make summer boating safer for families.

The program offers a way to easily borrow infant, child and youth-sized life jackets at no cost.

To borrow a life jacket, boaters or parents can sign out a life jacket at the visitor center located at the park entrance.

Life jackets are available for an afternoon, day or weekend.

Since the inception of the program 13 years ago, the lives of at least three children have been saved, and with over 500 loaner sites around the country, it's estimated that BoatUS Foundation life jackets are loaned more than 90,000 times a year.
