LINCOLN, N.D. -- A 44-year-old Lincoln man has been charged with attempted murder for an attack on his girlfriend including hitting her on the head with a large rock.

He also faces charges of felonious restraint and illegal possession of a firearm in South Central District Court.

Arthur Crissler allegedly forced a 41-year-old woman to the ground, hit her in the head with a large rock and strangled her until she lost consciousness on Friday night, according to an affidavit written by a Burleigh County sheriff's department deputy.

When Crissler went inside the residence to get a gun, which he said he would use to kill the victim and himself, the victim said she fled on foot and flagged down a car, and the driver called police, according to the affidavit.

The victim, who told deputies that she went to Crissler's home to break up with him, had lacerations to her forehead and scalp, marks indicating strangulation on her throat, bleeding from her ears and was feeling pain on her head, back, ribs, shoulder and right hip, according to the affidavit.
