Samantha Steffan of South Heart is currently serving on the North Dakota Farmer's Union Senior Youth Advisory Council (SYAC).
Last summer, Steffan was elected by her peers from a pool of more than 500 high school students. She is one of five students in North Dakota to serve on the 2007 council. As a member, Steffan helps establish curriculum for the organization's youth program and is a youth liaison to area schools.
"I ran for SYAC because becoming more involved in Farmer's Union and helping make camp better, all at the same time, sounded good to me," Steffan said. "Camp and the people attending are important to me."
Steffan is the daughter of Curt and Deanna Staffan of rural Dickinson. Steffan is a graduate of South Heart High School.
