GRAND FORKS — A body was removed from the Red River on Saturday evening, according to the Grand Forks Police Department.
In a news release, police said officers were dispatched around 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, to the area around the pedestrian bridge near the north boat landing for a report of a "deceased person caught in a log jam."
When officers arrived on scene and confirmed what a witness had reported, they began a recovery process to remove the body from the water, the release said. The body was removed from the area and transported to the UND Pathology lab for further examination.
The recovery process was led by the Grand Forks Fire Department and the Grand Forks County Sheriffs Office Water Rescue Team, along with Altru Ambulance and the Grand Forks Police.
No other information was immediately available about the case.

Last month, teams from Grand Forks and East Grand Forks searched the river for a potential missing swimmer. A caller had said they observed someone swimming toward the North Dakota shoreline on the north side of the Sorlie Bridge on Friday morning, April 8. The witness lost sight of the person while contacting 911. Search efforts were later suspended until more new information was available.
Police did not say whether these two cases are connected.
