Her final days were spent anticipating and enjoying the plans and the party of her 85th birthday, with her children, grandchildren and her new great-grandson.

Mabel's life began on June 16, 1922, when she was born to Steve and Mary Evonjuk in Gorham, one of 18 children.

On Aug. 15, 1940, Mabel was united in marriage to Peter M. Grosulak in Bozeman, Mont. They lived most of their married life in Billings. Mabel and Peter were married for 47 years and raised seven children.

Mabel moved to St. John's Lutheran Ministries shortly after the death of her husband in 1987. Her devout Catholic faith was her great source of strength and is what sustained her in her lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis.

Mabel was a wonderful cook. She will be remembered for the great bread she baked, and her children will always cherish her Ukrainian recipes for borscht and piroghy.

One of her favorite activities at St. John's was playing bingo. On her 85th birthday, she gave lessons on how to play bingo - however, she won most of the games.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Donna), Carson City, Nev., Eddee (Rodney) Dahl, Loves Park, Ill., Bert (Ed) Smith , Sparks, Nev,, Duane (Ann) Billings, Dale (Kay), Sparks, Nev., and Larry (Kelly) Billings; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven siblings, Mildred O'Hara, Anaheim, Calif., Mary (James) Powell, Oregon City, Ore., Cecelia (Oscar) Miller, Farmington, N.M., Walter, Dickinson, August, Mesa, Ariz., Steve (Hattie), Belfield, and Michael (Regina), Longmont, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, in 1987; and her son, Ronald, in 1993.
