BISMARCK (AP) -- A man accused in a murder-for-hire case has been sentenced in Bismarck to six years and two months in prison.

Robert Rutherford pleaded guilty last fall to two counts of threatening communications. Federal Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced him Monday.

Authorities said the 47-year-old Rutherford tried to hire a hit man to kill an attorney and his client in Bismarck over a civil lawsuit judgment. Rutherford was a state prison inmate in Jamestown at the time.
