ADA, Minn. – A 19-year-old man faces four felony charges after he was accused in Tuesday’s shooting of a Norman County deputy during a traffic stop east of Perley.
Steven Anthony Henderson of Fertile was charged Thursday in a Norman County Courthouse with first degree attempted murder of a peace officer, bringing stolen goods into the state and two counts of receiving stolen property.
From the court complaint, the truck that the Henderson and his brother William Henderson were driving was stolen.
The complaint also said the brothers had just driven from Oklahoma, and the truck was stolen Monday from Nebraska or Kansas.
The deputy has been identified as Nathan Warner, according to court documents. Warner has been with the Norman County Sheriff’s Office for 6½ months and was about to leave for a job with the Wadena Police Department.

Warner was shot once in the back and once in the chest, both times into his protective vest. He was treated at a Fargo hospital and released Tuesday.
Police recovered a .45 caliber handgun from the glove box of the stolen truck, documents said.
Steven Henderson drove off after the shooting, but with the help of a helicopter, officers found him two hours later in woods near a vacant farmstead a few miles from the site of the traffic stop.
Steven Henderson did not have a prior criminal record in Minnesota. In North Dakota, his only conviction was for possession of alcohol as a minor, filed in 2012 in Minot’s municipal court.
William Henderson was in custody at the jail in Pennington County. His warrant there was for failing to appear for court on misdemeanor charges of theft, damage to property and using a driver’s license to give a false name to a police officer, Pennington County officials said.
No charges have yet been filed against William Henderson.
William Henderson’s juvenile record in Minnesota shows Norman County charges of drug possession, criminal sexual conduct and introducing contraband to a jail in 2012. He does not have a criminal record in North Dakota.
