Jerry Newbold of Chikaska, Okla. was traveling north toward Watford City when he lost control of his vehicle at about 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release.

The road was covered with ice and snow. Newbold's vehicle collided head-on with Michael Maresh, Dickinson, who was traveling south. Both vehicles went in the ditch.

Buess was airlifted to a Bismarck hospital and later died from his injuries, Highway Patrol Lt. Norman Rudd said Friday.
