Devils Lake, N.D. - A federal prisoner has escaped from the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center.

U.S. Marshals were informed Saturday morning that Wesley E. Brown III, 35, had escaped from the Devils Lake facility. Brown was last seen in the jail at about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

He was in federal custody awaiting sentencing for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He had pleaded guilty to the charge on May 12 last year and was to be sentenced on May 11 in Bismarck.

This is the second time that Brown has escaped from custody in two years. He previously escaped from Heart of America Correctional Center in Rugby in June 2013. He was captured by U.S. Marshals four miles south of Rugby a few hours later.

He is a 6-foot-1 white male, weighs approximately 250 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on both sides of his neck, numerous tattoos on his arms and a teardrop tattoo on his right eye. He is believed to be wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans, baseball cap and black Nike tennis shoes. He may be traveling in a white 2015 Toyota Rav4 with North Dakota plate KMN-172.
