VALLEY CITY -- A Grand Forks man will spend the next three days in the Barnes County Jail for vandalizing a restaurant restroom in Valley City with either a knife or one of two swords, according to authorities.
Jon Henry Lightning, 32, was sentenced for one count of criminal mischief and was given a punishment of five days in jail by Barnes County Judge John Paulsen on Wednesday. He is expected to be released from custody Sunday, an official at the jail said.
Valley City police were called about 6 p.m. Tuesday to Johnny's Pizza. The walls of a bathroom there had been sliced up and poked with a "bladed instrument," police said.
Lightning was arrested at the Veterans of Foreign Wars club not long after police noted the damage at the restaurant.
Lightning had hidden a "dagger" and two swords in his clothing, police said. The weapons were found upon his arrest and confiscated.
