The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred Monday afternoon about 20 miles west of Jamestown on Interstate 94.

Robert Olson, of Horace, N.D., was driving a 2009 Kenworth freightliner down a stretch of the interstate when the truck went off the eastbound lane, across the right shoulder and into the south ditch, according to a report released Monday evening.

The truck drove up an embankment at the south side of the mile marker 237 overpass before striking a vertical concrete pillar on the truck’s left side.

Olson, 62, told authorities he may have fallen asleep before the accident. He was uninjured in the crash. His truck sustained $50,000 in damage to its front and side.

Medina Fire and Rescue assisted.
