MANDAN -- Hazen junior Chad Marshall and Heart River junior Devon Schmeling are going to the Class B state boys golf tournament, no matter how their teams finish at the Region 5 team tournament.
Marshall carded a 75 and Schmeling a 79 to qualify individually during the Region 5 boys golf qualifier tournament Friday at Prairie West Golf Course.
Marshall's score led Hazen to a team win. Hazen had a 325 thanks to Marshall, Conor Borud's 82 and Brady Hillerud and Cameron Dietz's 84.
Killdeer's Zach Dufault finished in a three-way tie for third with an 81 and helped the Cowboys manage a second-place 338. Austin Dufault and Brian Quintus each shot 82 and landed in the top 10 for Killdeer.
The Region 5 team tournament is also being held at Prairie West. It begins at 9 a.m. next Friday.
