Funeral Mass for Mary Ann Simek, 78, of Dickinson, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father James Braaten celebrating. Burial will take place in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, and continue from 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Mary Ann passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Paule Simek in Dickinson.
Mary Ann Splichal was born August 1, 1930 in Dickinson, to Louis and Mary (Roller) Splichal. She grew up on the family farm west of South Heart, and attended school in town. After school, Mary Ann worked at the grocery store in South Heart. On Oct. 20, 1948 Mary Ann and Laudie Simek were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Heart. Together they made their home southeast of South Heart where they farmed, milked cows and raised their family of five children.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and baking. She was especially known for her noodle making. Mary Ann was a great cook and always made sure everyone had enough food before sitting down herself. She loved playing cards, especially pinochle. She enjoyed taking pictures and then putting together scrapbooks. Mary Ann was very active in the Catholic Community from St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church to the Trinity Mardi Gras activities. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Eucharistic Minister, St. Ann's Altar Society and also volunteered at the nursing home. Mary Ann was always concerned for her neighbors and was the first to help anyone who needed a hand.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Laudie; sons, Richard (Paule) Simek, Dickinson, Kenneth (Barb) Simek, Dickinson; daughters, Lorraine (Montey) Duncan, Forest Falls, Calif. and Laurie (Kevin) Heinert, Dickinson; 17 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; brother, Clement (Mary Ann) Splichal, Bismarck; sister, Reggie Obritsch, Dickinson; sister-in-law, Elaine Splichal, South Heart.
She is preceded in death by both parents; son, Adrian Simek; brothers, Val, Louie, Peter and Philip; sisters, Anna, Rose, Philopina, Paulina, Christina and Margaret; brother-in-law, John Obritsch; sister-in-law, Donna Splichal.
