Marionette and Alvin Krogh of Dickinson, assisted by their daughter Muriel Neverdahl, spent Thursday morning making lefse for the upcoming ethnic supper in Dickinson.

The Sons of Norway Hardanger Lodge is sponsoring the lutefisk and meatball supper from 4:30-7 p.m. today, Sept. 24, at the Dickinson Elks Lodge.

Marionette boiled 20 pounds of potatoes to make an estimated 100 sheets of lefse for the dinner. Other members also made lefse and desserts.

The menu features traditional Norweigan foods including lefse, lutefisk, meatballs, potatoes, cranberries, vegetables and coffee.

"This is a fundraiser. Everyone is welcome," said Muriel. "We also have crafts, displays and a raffle. Usually, people sit around and visit."

Muriel grew up at home, learning the Norwegian traditions from her father.

Her mother, who is of German-Swiss background, was "adopted" into the Norwegian community where they lived.

"After I was married, I came home to a house full of people, so I could learn to make lefse," said Marionette.

Lefse is a traditional flatbread made of potatoes and flour. The Kroghs like to serve it with butter, sugar and cinnamon. The lutefisk is a dried codfish soaked in water and lye solution before cooking.

Everyone is invited to join in the annual Norwegian celebration.

Tickets are available at the door.
