BUCHANAN (AP) -- The Easter Sunday earthquake in northern Mexico was detected as far north as southeastern North Dakota.
It took about 5 minutes for the energy from the quake to reach a sensor near Buchanan.
More than two dozen seismographs have been installed in North Dakota as part of the National Science Foundation's nationwide EarthScope project. They gather information for researchers.
Fred Anderson, geologist with the North Dakota Geological Survey, says there have been a lot of earthquakes to study, including recent disasters in Haiti and Chile.
There even was a quake near the North Dakota town of Goodrich last August. Anderson says it was small and there were no reports of damage, injury, or of anyone even noticing.
