Midgets playing for fifth place at state

FARGO -- The Dickinson High boys tennis team won its opening round match of the North Dakota state tournament, but rebounded with a win in the consolation semifinals.

FARGO -- The Dickinson High boys tennis team won its opening round match of the North Dakota state tournament, but rebounded with a win in the consolation semifinals.

Fargo North, the second seed from the East Region, beat West Region No. 3 seed Dickinson 4-1 in the opening round.

However, the Midgets rallied for a 4-1 victory over Fargo Shanley to get into today's fifth-place match against Williston.

Jess Friedt and Collin Peterson earned Dickinson's only victory in its loss to North, defeating Ben LaBounty and Alex Dufault 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 1 doubles match.

Friedt and Peterson will also compete in the individual tournament, which begins today.

Stephan Blanchard, Taylor Bruhschwein and Luke Van Ells all won their singles matches in the win over Shanley. Friedt and Peterson won again in doubles.
