VALLEY CITY -- A strong overall performance by the Dickinson gymnastics team helped the Midgets overcome solid individual performances from Minot.
Jennifer Bachamp took home first place in the floor exercise and helped Dickinson to a meet-best score of 141.35 at the Valley City Holiday Meet on Friday.
"It was really not too bad of a meet," Dickinson coach Kent Van Ells said. "Minot's starting to creep up on us a little bit."
The Midgets edged out Minot by 1.4 points. Minot gymnast Allison Tracy won balance beam en route to the all-around title while teammate Brooklyn Bender won the vault and uneven parallel bars to finish second.
"We felt like we had all kinds of places up there, but Minot seems to get a lot of first and second places in everything but the floor," Van Ells said. "We didn't have a lot of first or seconds, but we had a lot after that. Our depth is the key to us winning."

Contrary to Van Ells, the Midgets captured second place in three of the four individual events. Lexi Stickel was second in the vault, Kelsey Dukart grabbed second in the floor exercise and Brogan Burwick took second in the balance beam.
Burwick had Dickinson's best all-around performance, placing third with a score of 35.3. Bachamp (35.225) and Stickel (34.925) rounded out the top five in the all-around.

"(Burwick) seems to be the most consistent of the girls right now," Van Ells said.
