The Beulah girls basketball team set a goal at the beginning of the season.
"We figured if we could limit a team to 45 points, we stood a chance of winning," Miners coach Clarence Winfrey said.
That's exactly what the fourth-seeded Miners did to defeat top-seeded Dickinson Trinity 52-45 in their District 14 Tournament semifinal game at the Knights of Columbus Activities Center.
"Beulah set the tone to start the game," Titans coach Alysia Hugret said. "They were getting every loose ball. They were getting every rebound. In that second half, our girls did a better job. We just could never quite get over the hump."
The Miners got their leg up in the game immediately and defended that lead until the end.

Beulah led 26-19 at halftime. The seven-point edge turned out to be the difference.
Senior Kayla Schmidt dominated the game with 27 points and nine rebounds.
"She's one of the best players in the state," Hugret said. "They did a good job of getting her the basketball. They also had different girls step up throughout the game and hit key shots."
Beulah sophomore Karsen Little Soldier added nine points, 11 rebounds and three steals.
Senior guards Jodi Frank and Katie Gordon led the Titans with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Each of them made three 3-pointers.
"They're always physical and they've got good 3-point shooters," Winfrey said. "Trinity is a very good team. Hopefully we meet them again in the regionals, and hopefully in the championship game."
The Titans face Hebron-Glen Ullin in a regional-qualifier game Monday at 4:30 p.m.
"I think we just need to come out with a lot of intensity at the beginning," Hugret said. "We need to set the tone to our style of basketball and not their style and I think we'll be fine."

The Miners face Richardton-Taylor at 7:30 Monday night in the District 14 championship game.
"When we started out the season, we had a goal," Winfrey said. "We've done that the last two games and that's what we've got to do with the next one."
Richardton-Taylor 57, Hazen 54
Richardton-Taylor rushed to a victory over Hazen in their semifinal game.
"We weren't playing our game," Bison coach Sandy McKay said. "We let them come out and rush us."
The Raiders came out blazing in the first quarter, taking a 20-14 lead.
"I'm just real happy with the way that all five of my girls came out and made some big contributions," Raider coach Brea Seime said. "Everybody did their job exactly how they needed to tonight."
Junior center Kaitlyn Forster led the Raiders with 23 points, five rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Katie Zent contributed 18 points and eight rebounds.

Junior guard Kayla Hoerner added eight points, five assists and two steals. Senior forward Carly Quintus added just five points, but led Richardton-Taylor in rebounds (13), assists (six) and steals (three).
Senior Allison Christian led the Bison with 15 points, four assists, and three steals. Freshman Stef Bohrer added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Casidie Anderson had 11 points and two steals.
"The biggest challenge against Beulah is going to be to hold down Schmidt and Little Soldier," Seime said. "Both of them are very good players. We've had a chance to play them before so we know what we need to do against them."
