MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota sheriff's deputy who was shot in February has undergone emergency surgery to correct brain bleeding.
Mahnomen (mah-NOH'-min) County Deputy Chris Dewey had the surgery early Tuesday. He was in serious condition at a Colorado hospital, where he was moved for rehabilitation in early March.
Sheriff Doug Krier (kreer) says Dewey will be in intensive care and in an induced coma for a few days, but his family is optimistic about recovery.
Krier says he spoke with Dewey's wife, Emily, and the family "doesn't feel it was a setback."
The 26-year-old deputy was shot twice on Feb. 18 while investigating a suspected drunken driver. A nine-hour standoff ensued before two suspects were arrested. Both are charged with multiple felonies.
