A 29-year-old man from Missoula, Mont., died Thursday night in a head-on collision along Highway 85 in Divide County.
The man was traveling south in a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox and attempting to pass in the northbound lane about 5 miles north of Zahl when he struck a Kenworth semi truck driven by 54-year-old Loren A. Shunkwiler of Williston.
The Equinox rotated counterclockwise, left the roadway and entered the west ditch. The Kenworth entered the roadway and entered the east ditch, where it rotated clockwise.
The driver of the Equinox was not wearing any safety restraints. Shunkwiler was wearing his seatbelt and was injured. His semi truck received $15,000 in damages.
