BISMARCK (AP) -- The departing North Dakota Republican chairman says the party is in good shape, both financially and politically.
Gary Emineth resigned Thursday night. His term as party chairman had a year to run, and the general election is less than five months away.
Emineth says he doesn't have time to be party chairman and tend to his business interests. He and a group of investors recently bought a burrito company, and they're exploring the idea of a manufacturing operation in North Dakota.
Emineth says just before he resigned, he signed a $170,000 check to pay off the mortgage on the party's Bismarck headquarters. He says the party is debt-free. Its most recent financial report says it has more than $70,000 in the bank.
