BISMARCK - House lawmakers passed a resolution Tuesday recognizing the North Dakota State University football team and coach Chris Klieman for an “unprecedented level of dominance in NCAA Division I football.”
The Bison captured its fourth consecutive Football Championship Subdivision title in January with a dramatic 29-27 come-from-behind victory over Illinois State University.
House Concurrent Resolution 3025 recognizes the team and lists the entire postseason roster, notes that the team’s seniors built a 58-3 record during their four years - that’s more championships than losses - and highlights some individual accolades. This year’s title came despite losing 23 seniors from the previous year’s championship team.
Rep. Jim Kasper of Fargo, one of 10 Republicans co-sponsoring the measure with one Democrat, said the team garnered national attention for NDSU and the state, noting downtown Fargo hosted ESPN’s “College GameDay” in September for the second straight year.
