BISMARCK (AP) -- A 52-year-old Fort Yates man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for sexually abusing a boy younger than 12.

Patrick Big Shield was sentenced Monday to 41 months in federal prison on a charge of abusive sexual contact with a child under 12. Big Shield had faced up to life in prison after being found guilty in March.

Authorities say Big Shield was arrested last July after the child called 911 around 3:30 a.m. to report he had been abused by Big Shield. An officer who responded found the boy waiting at the front door of the home wrapped in a bed sheet, but otherwise wearing no clothing.
