BISMARCK - A New Town man charged with assaulting a woman he was dating in December was sentenced Monday to two years and six months in prison, U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon announced.
Christopher McMillan, 29, plead guilty on April 21 to assaulting a woman on Dec. 9 of last year, causing injury to her face and neck.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland ordered McMillan to complete two years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
The charge, assault of a dating partner resulting in substantial injury in Indian Country, was created by Congress as part of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013.
McMillan’s case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Fort Berthold Agency and the Three Affiliated Tribes Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Volk.
