NEW TOWN, N.D. - A New Town man was killed Sunday night in a crash with a tractor-trailer North Dakota Highway Patrol officials said Monday.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Travis Skar said the man was headed west in his Toyota Tundra on Highway 23 in McKenzie County about 9:38 p.m. Sunday when he came upon a truck that was also headed west and had slowed to make a left turn.
The Toyota driver began to pass the semi in the eastbound lane and hit the driver's side of the trailer, Skar said, ejecting the driver, who died at the scene.
The 2016 Freightliner came to rest in the intersection of Highway 23 and 95th Avenue Northwest, with the trailer extended into the eastbound lane.
Neither the truck driver, Charles Haas, nor his passenger, Cory Haas, both of Killaly, Sask., were hurt in the crash.
