New Town rallies to defeat Trinity

NEW TOWN -- Dickinson Trinity girls basketball coach Alysia Hugret wasn't proud of her team's performance against New Town on Friday, despite holding leads at the first three quarter breaks.

"From the very beginning, we didn't have a lot of energy," Hugret said. "We never got in a flow, offensively or defensively."

New Town turned up the heat in the fourth quarter and came away with 52-48 victory over the Titans in Class B action.

Trinity led 10-6 after the first, 24-19 at halftime and 34-33 at the end of the third, but couldn't stave off the hard-charging Eagles.

"We looked very, very tired," Hugret said. "We didn't execute well on either end of the floor."

New Town (6-2), which placed third at state last season, got a game-high 15-point performance from senior all-stater Christine Miller.

Trinity (6-3) was in the game until the end. However, the Titans missed key shots and finished the game 6 of 17 from the free-throw line.

"We had a couple of opportunities in the end where we could have converted on a few shots and we were going to be fine," Hugret said. "Our free-throw percentage killed us against tonight."

The Titans were led in scoring by Shannon Ernst's 13 points.

Hugret said, most importantly, she was disappointed with her team's performance on the defensive side of the ball.

"That was probably our worst defensive effort that we've had," Hugret said. "I think we went on a Christmas break a day too son."
