RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Snow is no April Fools' joke in the Dakotas.

Dickinson and surrounding areas are under a National Weather Service storm watch as rain is expected to turn to snow tonight, according to the service.

Nearly 2 feet of snow could accumulate by midday Friday in the higher elevations of South Dakota's Black Hills, according to NWS. Between 3 and 8 inches of snow is expected in other parts of western South Dakota and in southwest and south central North Dakota.

South Dakota Public Safety Secretary Tom Dravland is cautioning motorists and ranchers to be aware of the stormy conditions that are expected and to take the normal precautions.
