Minot man faces murder charge after turning himself in for shooting

A man found with a gunshot wound at a Minot hotel died from his injuries, and Darrion Jackson turned himself in a short time later.

MINOT, N.D. — Police arrested a Minot man on a murder charge after he turned himself in early Tuesday, Jan. 31.

At about 11:50 p.m. Monday, Minot police responded to a report of a shooting at a northwest Minot hotel, according to the Minot Police Department.

Officers found an unresponsive 38-year-old man with a gunshot wound, police said. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and died as a result of his injuries, police said.

Police identified the victim as Timothy Chrishaod Smith of Minot.

Darrion Jackson, 32, turned himself in shortly after the shooting, according to police. He faces a Class AA felony charge of murder in Ward County District Court.

Jackson was being held in the Ward County Jail. Court records did not list an attorney for him as of Tuesday afternoon.
