Spring wilderness hikes at the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park with Park Ranger John Heiser begin Sunday, April 15. The public is welcome to join Heiser in exploring the state's largest wilderness area.

Participants should meet Heiser at noon (CDT) at the North Unit Visitor Center. The center is located 15 miles south of Watford City along Highway 85.

Hikes are every other Sunday throughout the spring, April 29, May 13, 20 and 27. Starting Memorial Day weekend, hikes are offered each Sunday through September.

The afternoon adventures are around three to five hours taking routes across backcountry wildlife trails. Hikes could be moderately strenuous at times so participants are encouraged to dress appropriately which includes sturdy boots and appropriate attire. Inspect repellent, water, lunch, field guides and binoculars also are important for wandering through the Badlands.

For additional information about any severe weather or other postponements, call the center at 701-842-2333 or call Heiser at 701-863-6987.
