MAYVILLE, N.D. - One man was found dead in a house fire Saturday, Jan. 7, on the east side of Mayville, the Traill County Sheriff’s Department reported.

About 6:26 a.m., the sheriff’s department received a 911 call reporting a house fire on 7th Avenue Northeast, near the hospital, the report said.

Flames were visible through the roof when the Mayville and Portland Fire Departments arrived on the scene, and firefighters had to cope with subzero temperatures as they hooked up their hoses and fought the fire, the report said.

Firefighters forced their way into the home, and during a search, found one body, the report said.

The individual found dead was not identified, and the body was taken to the medical examiner’s office in Grand Forks for an autopsy, the report said.

Firefighters fought the blaze for several hours until it was extinguished.

The fire and death are being investigated by the North Dakota state fire marshal’s office, the Traill County coroner, and the sheriff’s office.

The West Traill Ambulance also responded to the scene of the fire.
