The use of fireworks is a big part of celebrating Independence Day, but there a few local laws and safety issues that need to be minded.
"It's always been a concern with the dry weather," Stark County Sheriff's Capt. Lawrence Kitzman said. "But luckily that's not a concern this year. However, we would like to remind everyone of when they can and can't use them."
North Dakota state law limits the purchase and use of fireworks between the dates of June 27 and July 5.
The city of Dickinson bans the sale and use of fireworks within the city limits entirely.
The use of fireworks is permitted within many of the rural cities in Stark County within the allotted time period and as long as there is no burn ban.

"It's not that we're against people having fun, but we ask them to do it within the limits of the code and enjoy the public display," Dickinson Fire Chief Bob Sivak said. "Every year, people do get injured using fireworks and even with the restrictions in place, we do get a call to something that was a fireworks-related, unfortunately."
The public fireworks display is to be hosted at Whitney Stadium on the Fourth of July at dusk.
