Paige Burian will take Joe Kessel's place on the Billings County School Board, voters decided Tuesday. Business Manager Darlene Mitchel said unofficial results show Burian won 89 to 36, totaling 125 votes cast.
The results are unofficial until the School Board meets tonight.
The district held the election after receiving a petition signed by 20 Billings County residents to recall District 5 School Board member Kessel.
Burian and others gathered signatures to recall Kessel because "electors were unable to be given an opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate," according to the petition.
Kessel became a School Board member in August after petitioning the court over former District 5 school board member Dennis O'Brien's position, according to a previous Press article.

O'Brien resides outside District 5 boundaries so Kessel felt he should not hold the position. O'Brien resigned in July, the article said.
Kessel had the second-highest number of write-in votes during the June general election and a judge agreed to allow him to fill the vacancy, according to a previous Press article.
Burian said he is interested in being a board member because he has four young daughters, three whom attend school in the district, the article said.
Prairie Elementary School had 104 voters, 69 of which voted for Burian and 35 for Kessel.
DeMores Elementary School had 21 voters, 20 of which voted for Burian and one for Kessel.
