MEDORA - The Painted Canyon Rest Area and Visitor Center opens Thursday, April 12, for the 2007 tourist season. The center is exit 32 off Interstate 94 (I-94).

The site is a trailhead access into Theodore Roosevelt National Park's South Unit with a chance to see wildlife and a panoramic view of the Badlands. It also has a small picnic area and public restrooms opened 24 hours a day.

The spring hours for the center are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It remains open daily until the end of the season in mid-November.

The many scenes of the Painted Canyon area are just some of the reasons for visitors to stop by, while other breathtaking spots throughout the park are waiting to be discovered, TRNP Chief of Interpretation Bruce Kaye said in a recent press release.

"If people have stopped on earlier travels we entice them to return once again to delight in the magic of an ever-changing scene," Kaye added.
