One upset victory couldn't give Dickinson the boost it needed to topple the kings of West Region boys tennis.

Taylor Bruhschwein gave the Midgets a huge lift with an upset victory against Bismarck Century's Thomas Welk at No. 1 singles, but the Midgets could not come any closer.

Century, widely believed to be the top team in the West Region, cruised through the remainder of the dual with ease, earning an 8-1 victory on Tuesday.

"We actually played pretty well," Midgets co-coach Larry Dockter said. "The score didn't show it, but I was pleased with our play today."

Bruhschwein earned a 6-3, 7-6 victory. Dockter credited the senior's victory

"He always seems to pick it up toward the end of the season," Dockter said.

Century scored big wins in singles, nearly sweeping the Midgets at Nos. 5 and 6.

Welk took some revenge on Bruhschwein in No. 1 doubles, as he and Mike Hofsted earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Bruhschwein and Luke Van Ells.

"There one of top, if not, the best team in the state right now," Dockter said. "We actually played well, they just played strong. It showed how strong of a team they are today."

Dickinson has changed its schedule for the trip to Fargo this weekend. The Midgets were originally slated to play both Fargo South and West Fargo on Friday, but had both matches cancelled in place of a dual with Fargo Shanley at 3:30 p.m. Dickinson plays in the Fargo Tournament all day Saturday.
