Perkins advances on 'The Voice,' blows away coaches

Kat Perkins dedicated one of the great ‘80s rock ballads to her father, Mark, on Monday night’s performance of NBC’s “The Voice.”
The graduate of Scranton High School, where Mark Perkins is a music teacher, sang the Journey hit “Open Arms” in the playoff round and floored the coaches.
Her coach, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, said “There has not been a better performance than this one.”
Perkins was the final of the three singers Levine chose to take to the live performance rounds that begin next week.
The other coaches raved about Perkins’ performance, too - especially of her ability to make the song her own.
“Kat, it sounded like your song,” Blake Shelton said. “We’re supposed to be critical when we’re talking to you guys. But I can’t even come up with anything to say.”
Shakira called the performance “effortless.”
“You’re so committed and in the moment,” she said. “It made me be in the moment with you.”
Usher said Perkins was “flawless” and told Levine he’d outdone himself in working with Perkins.
Levine said during his comments following Perkins’ performance that she has much more yet to accomplish.
“We’re already approaching the end, but the way I feel about you is this is only the beginning,” he said.
