Perkins survives bottom three on ‘The Voice’

Kat Perkins was five minutes away from being voted off “The Voice” for good Tuesday night.
But thanks to the “Instant Save,” a song about Paris and a large fan base, the Scranton native survived another round on the NBC talent show.
Perkins kicked off Monday’s episode by singing “Landslide.” She once again drew praise from the judges, including country singer Blake Shelton.
“I gotta say, just as a fan of yours, it’s really refreshing to see you break it down and do a performance like that,” Shelton said. “We know you as the rocker chick - and it is still a rock song - but to see you do that softer side of what you do, that is important at this point of the competition because it shows those dimensions.”
But it wasn’t enough to push her forward without fighting a second time. After a night of fans voting through iTunes and social media, Perkins was in the bottom three with blues singer Bria Kelly and pre-law student Tess Boyer. This triggered the “Instant Save,” where viewers had five minutes to vote and save their favorite artist after they sang for possibly the last time.
Perkins chose to cover “Paris (Ooh La La)” by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. The song was enough for voters to keep her on the series, ending the show for Boyer, who was in the bottom three last week, and Kelly.
Two more people will be eliminated in the show next week Tuesday after the top eight sing on Monday. “The Voice” airs at 6 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC affiliates.
