PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Two Pittsburgh men are jailed on charges they stole $3,500 in coins from a laundry business after police say they tried to put the coins in a supermarket coin exchange machine.
Twenty-year-olds Kevin Walter and Brandon Cafeo are charged with burglarizing the Butler Street Laundromat at 5 a.m. Tuesday. Police say surveillance video shows the men stealing the money from washing and vending machines at the business.
But police were first alerted by supermarket workers who say the men dumped the loose change -- all $3,500 of it -- into a loose change machine then tried to redeem a voucher at a cashier's station. Police say the men were evasive when asked about where they got the change.
Online court records do not list attorneys for the men who face a preliminary hearing May 7.
