Police ID Good Samaritan killed in collision in western North Dakota

A 73-year-old Killdeer woman stopped to help a motorist with a flat tire and was struck by a pickup truck.

KILLDEER, N.D. — A woman who stopped to help a motorist with a flat tire was killed when she was crossing a highway at about 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 4 miles north of Killdeer.

A motorist stopped on the northbound shoulder of state Highway 22 between Berthold and Killdeer to change a flat tire, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Elaine Fettig, 73, of Killdeer, stopped on the southbound shoulder to help the other motorist, the patrol said.

Warren Jensen, 58, of Berthold, was driving a Chevy Silverado northbound as Fettig was crossing the highway.

Jensen was unable to avoid her, and the pickup truck struck her, the patrol said. She died at the scene.

Jensen pulled his vehicle over after the crash, which remains under investigation, the patrol said.
