Businesses and homes in and around Kings Plaza briefly lost power Tuesday morning after a Family Fare delivery truck struck an electric pole behind Dairy Barn in east Dickinson.

The incident happened around 9:25 a.m., said Mark Hanson, a spokesman for Montana-Dakota Utilities. Approximately 460 customers in the area north of Villard Street East between Sims and Fourth Avenue East lost power, he said, but by 10 a.m. power had been restored to all but two customers. Kovash Furniture and West Dakota Oil had power again by 11:20.

Lisa Dutchuk, customer service manager at Family Fare, said the driver of the truck likely struck the pole as he made a sharp turn in the parking lot.

“The power went out, then went out again,” she said. “We closed everything down, took customers through the line and got them out.”

Dickinson Ambulance and Dickinson Police both responded but left by 10:30, at which point Family Fare and neighboring Thrifty White Pharmacy and Simonson’s Gas Station were up and running.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

“The driver’s OK,” Dutchuk said. “I felt bad for the poor guy.”
